St. Mary’s Coptic Orthodox Church of Minnesota began with 10 University of Minnesota Coptic graduate students. Some of these graduates had families and were able to gather at least once a week for a small worship and prayer service. With the blessing of His Grace Bishop Samuel, who annually visited Coptic student groups at various universities in the United States, this small group of Copts were able to open the first Coptic Church in Minnesota in the early 1960’s.

Today, our congregation has grown to over 200 families and is continuing to grow yearly. The Coptic congregation in the Twin Cities has had the blessing of three visits by His Holiness Pope Shenouda III; 1989, 2002, and 2004. Through service and spiritual education, we strive to nurture Christian ideals in our congregation and in our community. We also encourage the youth of the church to apply Christian behavior to their daily living.

We encourage you to take a moment to discover and learn more about St. Mary’s Coptic Orthodox Church through this website, and learn more about who the Copts really are. We welcome you to our weekly Liturgies and hope that you can see and learn that our traditions and our faith are as vibrant today as they were over 2,000 years ago. May the Peace and Love of the Lord be with you.
